Wivenhoe Funny Farm
Description:Robin Ince The name Wivenhoe Funny Farm was chosen, after rejecting several awful football-based ones, because the venue is surrounded by farmland. Wivenhoe Town FC Clubhouse I hope that interest in the night will only grow, and I'm considering starting a membership scheme offering discounts for future gigs. In recent years stand-up comedy clubs have become a hugely popular choice for a night out, because people can drink and be sociable at them as well as enjoying the humour and possibly picking up some new jokes. This helps us encourage a mixture of excellent professional and highly talented newer acts, who have included Perrier award nominees and winners, TV performers. Toby, who performs under the stage name 'Tony Cowards' has been running and compereing his own comedy club, 'Suffolk n' Funny' at the Plough Inn in Ipswich, where he hails from, for just under a year. The football club were kind enough to let us use their intimate, friendly venue, and we've got a great first line-up for the 29th September, including comedian and presenter of BBC2's 'Escape to the Country', Nick Page, and the excellent, always energetic, professional compere Alexis Dubus and three extremely talented support acts who are in demand at comedy clubs throughout the UK. At our Christmas gig, sweets and crackers were placed on all the tables, and the audience demanded that MC Tony Cowards sang a Christmas song.
